Gap has introduced GapBags, a new line of tote bags designed by Reed Krakoff, the Executive Director of Accessories at Gap Inc. The collection draws inspiration from Gap's iconic denim and five-pocket construction.
The flagship item is the Five-Pocket Tote, which incorporates signature jean elements such as five-pocket stitching, belt loops, and gold hardware. This design has been unofficially dubbed the "Jirkin" by the New York Post. The tote can be carried on the elbow, shoulder, or by hand using its double handles, and a detachable shoulder strap allows for crossbody wear.
The Five-Pocket Tote is available in dark and medium denim washes across three sizes: small, standard, and large. The Large Patchwork Denim Five Pocket Tote, priced at $498, was among the most expensive styles and has since sold out.
Another notable addition to the GapBags line is the Hoodie Tote, a reimagining of Gap's classic pullover sweatshirt. This bag is crafted from a soft cotton-blend jersey fabric with a water-resistant neoprene lining and comes in light heather grey, bainbridge blue, and true black, also in three size variations.
Beyond these styles, the collection also features the Canvas Favorite Tote in various prints and the Crescent Bag, a soft denim crossbody. Customers can personalize their accessories with new charms, including miniature versions of the Five-Pocket Tote and denim jacket-themed charms.
GapBags hosted a pop-up event at Rockefeller Center's Channel Gardens from September 11-13, where guests could personalize their totes with charms and participate in customization stations. The event also featured an oversized Five-Pocket Tote installation.
The collection's launch event on September 10 was attended by celebrities including Jordyn Woods and Ashtin Earle. The GapBags collection has reportedly been selling quickly.
