Expedia's 2026 Island Hot List highlights ten destinations experiencing increased traveler interest, signaling a broader trend of travelers seeking greater value and diverse experiences over solely budget-focused trips.
Interest in the islands on the list has risen 55% year-over-year based on Expedia flight searches, with every featured destination showing positive growth. This trend indicates that travelers are not abandoning trips but are instead becoming more strategic about how they maximize their travel budgets. According to Melanie Fish, VP of global PR at Expedia Group, travelers are "optimizing" their trips, using technology to compare options, track prices, and find bundled deals. This shift is reflected in a 1,800% increase in Hotels.com's Budget filter usage and a 50% year-over-year rise in searches for all-inclusive stays.
"Value is shaping where, when and how people travel — not whether they travel," Fish stated. "They still want to go, but they’re getting much smarter about how they make the trip work for their budget."

Shifting Travel Values
The Island Hot List reflects a larger trend where value is defined not just by the lowest price, but by the overall experience and how travelers optimize their spending through bundled deals, flexible dates, and prioritized amenities. Fish emphasizes that travelers are using technology to protect their desired experiences while ensuring the financial aspects align.
For those planning trips to popular or emerging destinations, especially during peak or holiday seasons, Expedia advises booking earlier due to rising demand. While the list is based on flight search trends and not a holiday-specific forecast, it serves as a strong indicator of growing traveler interest.
