Costco is preparing to open 14 new warehouses across the United States and Canada before the end of the year, continuing its expansion efforts. The company has already established new stores this year in several U.S. states including California, Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, New York, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin, as well as in Mexico and Taiwan.

October Openings

In October, five new Costco warehouses are slated to open. These include locations in Lee’s Summit, Missouri; The Colony, Texas; Amherst, New York; Lawrence, Kansas; and Camarillo, California. Some of these openings represent relocations within the same city, such as the new Newport News, Virginia, store which replaces a facility that has been in operation since 1988. The new Newport News location will be a larger, 163,000-square-foot retail warehouse with a fuel station.

November Openings and Future Plans

November will see the launch of nine additional warehouses. Four of these will be in Canada: Northeast Edmonton and Lloydminster in Alberta, and East Windsor and Wasaga Beach in Ontario. The U.S. stores opening in November are planned for South Meridian, Idaho; Vallejo, California; Chandler, Arizona; Newport News, Virginia; and Franklin, Wisconsin.

Costco is also evaluating potential sites for future warehouses in various communities. Proposals have been submitted for locations in Charleston County, South Carolina, and Hillsborough County, Florida. The company is also exploring possibilities in Downey, California; Fresno, California; Lake St. Louis, Missouri; Southborough, Massachusetts; Silver Spring, Maryland; Scottsdale, Arizona; and Des Plaines, Illinois.

Despite this expansion, Costco does not currently plan to open warehouses in Rhode Island, West Virginia, or Wyoming. The company's CEO, Ron Vachris, previously stated that Costco aims to open 30 or more warehouses annually over the next five to 10 years. Approximately half of these are expected to be in the U.S., with the remainder located internationally in areas such as Mexico, Canada, Asia, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
