Texas-based YouTube influencer Connor Michael Murphy, 32, drowned in a lake in Thailand on Tuesday, according to local reports. Murphy, who had 2.36 million subscribers, was pulled from a lake near his rental home in Samut Prakan, approximately 16 miles south of Bangkok.
The incident occurred after Murphy reportedly exhibited erratic behavior and argued with a security guard at his estate. Witnesses stated he attempted to flag down a car for a ride, but the security guard instructed the driver not to allow him in. Murphy then reportedly shouted at the guard, rolled on the ground, and fled the scene when police arrived.
He then jumped into the 32-foot-deep lake and disappeared underwater, according to local media. Divers searched for about 30 minutes before locating his body approximately 66 feet from the bank. Investigators suspect drowning, and reports indicated no signs of assault.
Murphy's 22-year-old girlfriend told authorities she was unaware of the cause of his outburst, but she claimed he had previously damaged furniture and decor in the rental property by splattering paint while she slept. Murphy had been renting the home for about two months.
His last YouTube post, six days prior to his death, stated he was "absorbing the spirit of Elon." Another video uploaded last month, titled "A Day in the Looksmaxxing Life of Mandibleus Zygomidus," garnered nearly 120,000 views. He had also recently shared a video from the rental home overlooking the lake, captioning it "mirin the view."
The U.S. Embassy in Thailand has reportedly been notified of Murphy's death.
