A 25-year-old woman sustained a severe scalp injury when her hair became trapped in a Ferris wheel at a fair in Maharashtra, India, on Friday. The incident occurred when Bali Maroti Talikote's long hair got caught in a bearing behind her seat as the ride was in motion.
Graphic video footage captured the moment the woman screamed in agony as her hair was pulled into the machinery, tearing away a significant portion of her scalp. Onlookers and police officers at the scene intervened to stop the ride and assist Talikote. She was transported to a hospital in Pusad, where her condition was reported as serious.
Talikote was among thousands attending the one-day festival, which was associated with a nearby temple. This incident follows a series of other serious fairground ride accidents in India in recent months. In May, five people were injured when a chair swing ride collapsed at a theme park in Kerala. In April, an overloaded Ferris wheel collapsed in Uttar Pradesh, injuring at least 30 people, 10 of whom were in critical condition. Earlier in the year, in January, 14 children were injured when a giant swing at a fair in Madhya Pradesh malfunctioned and struck a nearby wall.
