A three-year-old girl was the target of an alleged abduction attempt in a KFC parking lot in Logan Central, Queensland, on Thursday. The child's grandfather recounted the terrifying incident that occurred as he and his wife were dropping the toddler back to her parents.

According to the grandfather, he and his wife were in separate cars in the parking lot, waiting for the child's father to return with food. He reported seeing a woman approach the car where the toddler was seated. The woman allegedly attempted to unbuckle the child and pull her from her seat.

"Next minute… I heard a scream. I took my seatbelt off, jumped out and saw this lady who (allegedly) had one of her hands over my granddaughter's mouth and one around her waist," the grandfather told reporters.

He and the child's mother managed to rescue the toddler from the woman's grasp. The child's father then emerged from the KFC and restrained the woman until police arrived. Footage from the scene shows two police officers apprehending the 40-year-old woman.

The child sustained minor scratch marks but was otherwise unharmed. The woman was taken to a hospital and is expected to face charges.
