A three-year-old girl was the target of an alleged abduction attempt in the car park of a KFC in Logan Central, Queensland, on Thursday.
The child's grandfather recounted the terrifying incident, stating that he and his wife were returning the toddler to her parents. They were waiting in separate cars for the girl's father to bring food from the restaurant when the alleged abduction occurred.
According to the grandfather, he saw a woman approach the car in his rear-view mirror. He reported that the woman then allegedly attempted to unbuckle the child and pull her from her seat.
"Next minute … I heard a scream. I took my seatbelt off, jumped out and saw this lady who (allegedly) had one of her hands over my granddaughter's mouth and one around her waist," the grandfather told reporters.
He and the child's mother were able to intervene, with the grandfather attempting to restrain the woman while the mother retrieved her daughter. The child's son-in-law then emerged from the KFC and held the woman down until police arrived.
Footage from the scene shows two police officers restraining a 40-year-old woman. The child sustained scratch marks but was otherwise unharmed.
The woman was taken to a hospital and is expected to face charges. The incident has left the child's family shaken.
