A woman, identified as 58-year-old Linda Patterson, died following a four-car collision on the A8 Glasgow Road near Newbridge, close to Edinburgh Airport, on Monday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 9:25 a.m.
Authorities described the incident as a suspected "hit and run," as three individuals allegedly fled the scene following the crash. Emergency services pronounced Ms. Patterson deceased at the scene. Four other individuals were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Following an investigation that included the use of sniffer dogs and helicopters, police announced the charging of a 32-year-old man and two women, aged 19 and 23. They were scheduled to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
The A8 was closed for investigation and reopened around 7 p.m. on Monday.
Sergeant Mike Thomson stated that "our thoughts remain with Linda's family and friends at this devastating time" and that the investigation is ongoing. Police are appealing for public assistance, particularly requesting anyone with dashcam footage or relevant CCTV to come forward.
Ms. Patterson was remembered by her family as a "beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend who brought so much love and joy to those who knew her." They further described her as "a beautiful soul whose warmth and cheery sense of humour left their mark on everyone she knew."
Her business partner, Arthur Alexander, paid tribute to her as an "amazing friend" and "best friend for over 40 years." Other friends and family members shared similar sentiments on social media, noting her positive outlook and the void her loss would leave.
