Wildfires are forcing widespread evacuations in France and Spain, with residents describing terrifying encounters with "walls of flames" and experiencing significant stress and anxiety. More than 300,000 people have been displaced by the blazes.

In Spain's central Madrid region, over 27,000 hectares (approximately 66,000 acres) have been consumed by fire. Olga Congacha recounted the urgent evacuation from her village, stating, "Everyone had to get out of the village quickly, it was a critical situation and people were scared." She and her husband managed to leave with essential documents and some clothing.

Ricardo Pozo, in the eastern Castellón province, described the unprecedented intensity of the fires, telling AFP, "I've never seen a fire this intense before." He contrasted his current experience with past encounters with large fires, noting, "I've seen major fires, but on television. Nothing like this, here and now."

Maria Garcia, a resident of Betxí in Castellón province, told Reuters that the fires have disrupted daily life, making it impossible to work or carry out routine activities. "You can see the mountains you've known your whole life burning," she added, conveying the emotional toll of witnessing familiar landscapes consumed by flames.
