A month after twin earthquakes struck Venezuela's coast, families in the hardest-hit region of La Guaira continue to search for the remains of their loved ones. The earthquakes, which occurred on June 24, flattened apartment buildings along the coast, leaving behind widespread destruction.

Government officials have reported that the death toll has surpassed 5,300. However, estimates of the number of people still missing range as high as 50,000. Residents are still sifting through the rubble of collapsed structures in a desperate search for any sign of those lost.

The BBC's Latin America correspondent visited towns in La Guaira in the immediate aftermath of the tremors and returned to document the ongoing, arduous search efforts by grieving families a month later.
