The United Kingdom's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.9 percent in the three months to May, according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The ONS also reported that average regular earnings growth in the UK held steady at 3.4 percent during the same period. When adjusted for Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation, this represents a 0.4 percent increase in real terms.

The data comes shortly after John Healey was appointed as the new Chancellor by Prime Minister Andy Burnham. Healey's appointment occurred just over a month after he resigned as defence secretary following a disagreement over defense funding.
