A 23-year-old British influencer is facing the death penalty in the United Arab Emirates after being charged with the murder of her boyfriend. Brooke George, who has a significant following on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, claims she acted in self-defense during an alleged attack.
Detained in Dubai, an advocacy group assisting foreigners in legal trouble within the UAE, is representing George. The organization states that George met the 26-year-old British expatriate online and that their relationship had become “controlling and abusive” prior to the fatal incident on June 22, 2026. According to Detained in Dubai, George reached for a kitchen knife after being subjected to a violent assault and fearing for her safety.
Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, alleged that George may have been lured to Dubai under false pretenses. Stirling cited concerns fueled by the boyfriend's alleged change in behavior, a one-way ticket, a professionally arranged photoshoot during her first visit, and reports of her passport being withheld. George had reportedly expressed to friends that "things weren’t right" and that she feared needing to escape.
George, originally from Kent, England, had made one prior trip to Dubai, which she described as the “time of my life.” However, on her second visit, the alleged stabbing occurred. Her mother, Thereza George, described her daughter as “utterly terrified” and “desperately trying to get home,” noting that Brooke appeared unusually quiet and visibly distressed, with one eye badly swollen, in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
Detained in Dubai has also raised concerns about the conditions of George's detention at Bur Dubai Police Station, alleging she was subjected to humiliating treatment by male officers. The advocacy group is calling for George to be released on bail and for a fair investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
If convicted of murder, George could face execution by firing squad. UK authorities have confirmed they are working with UAE officials and providing support to George's family. George’s social media presence, which includes lifestyle content, has drawn commentary from the public, with some users expressing skepticism and others calling for compassion.
