Two inmates have died in custody at HMP Ranby, a Category C training and resettlement prison in Nottinghamshire, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) confirmed on Wednesday. Nottinghamshire Police has launched an investigation into the deaths and is working closely with the Prison Service to establish the circumstances.

"As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate, and we will respond to its findings in due course," a spokesperson for the Prison Service stated. The Prison Service has indicated it will not provide further comment at this time.

Detective Inspector James Oakton of Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway. "The families of those involved are being supported, and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time," Oakton added.
