Two firefighting helicopters collided in mid-air on Sunday while battling a wildfire in Psatha, Greece, west of Athens. Footage from the incident shows one helicopter clipping the rotor of the second, which then caught fire and fell from the sky. Both aircraft had two crew members on board, according to the fire service.

A search and rescue operation is underway, and the status of the four individuals has not yet been released. The cause of the mid-air collision is currently under investigation.

The crash occurred as Greece and other European nations continue to struggle with wildfires exacerbated by prolonged periods of high temperatures. In recent weeks, fires have scorched thousands of acres on the island of Crete, prompting the evacuation of over 8,000 people. Additionally, approximately 500 individuals, primarily tourists, were evacuated from a blaze in central Greece. Wildfires have also been reported on the Greek islands of Paros, Andros, and Kalymnos.
