Two American tourists who intended to fly from Rome to Nice, France, instead landed in Tunis, Tunisia, after boarding a flight to the wrong destination, then posted the ordeal on TikTok where the videos were viewed millions of times.
The travellers, identified in social posts as Brittney and her friend Hannah and posting from the account @brittneydzialo_, documented the moment they realised the plane was not bound for Nice. In footage shared online, they can be heard asking fellow passengers and cabin crew, "Is this going to Nice?" A flight attendant replies, "No, to Tunis." One of the women says, "We're supposed to go to Nice!" while the pilot is heard telling them to stay on the aircraft and "sort out the problem after this flight," explaining, "You change the plane later, to Nice."
After the flight landed in Tunis, clips show the pair attempting to explain the error to airport officials. The pair later boarded a separate flight and reached Nice hours after the mistaken arrival, posting a subsequent video captioned "hours later and we are finally getting on the plane to Nice."
The videos, which were reported by UK media on Sept. 9, drew a wide range of reactions online. Some users criticised the travellers for perceived ignorance; one commenter wrote, "It's actually embarrassing you can be so loudly ignorant you're on a plane full of Tunisians and proudly declare where is Tunisia?" Other responses questioned basic travel-checking practices, with viewers asking whether the women had examined their boarding passes or departure screens. Supporters described the incident as humorous and praised the travellers for taking the mistake in good spirits.
Airline passengers are routinely advised to check boarding passes and gate displays before boarding, and travellers have occasionally posted about similar mix-ups. In this case, both women remained aboard the initial flight to Tunis and were rebooked onto a flight to their intended destination later the same day.
The episode highlights how easily travel plans can be disrupted and how such moments play out on social media. While the pair's videos spurred debate about travel awareness and cultural sensitivity, they also prompted laughter and sympathy from others who said mistakes can happen and that the travellers' reaction — laughing and documenting the experience — made for compelling viral content.
