President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are said to be "thrilled" that Catherine, Princess of Wales, will be prominently involved in their two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, the Daily Mail reported Saturday.
According to the report, the Princess will greet the presidential party alongside her husband, the Prince of Wales, in the grounds of Windsor Castle on Wednesday morning and will formally introduce President Trump and the First Lady to King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The couple is then expected to join a horse-drawn carriage procession through Windsor Great Park with the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment and to attend a lunch with the Trumps followed by a visit to view works in the Royal Collection.
The report said the Trumps will also make a private visit to the tomb of the late Queen Elizabeth II at St George’s Chapel. A Trump source quoted by the Daily Mail said, "The President and First Lady are thrilled that the Princess of Wales will play such a prominent role in their visit. The inclusion of Princess Kate in so many events during the state visit is an honour. The Trumps very much hoped she would be part of their visit but nothing was confirmed until this week because of the princess’s health situation."
The itinerary reported by the paper includes a separate visit by President Trump to Chequers to meet Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, where he will reportedly be welcomed by bagpipers and shown items from the Winston Churchill archives made available by the National Trust at Chartwell House. The two leaders are also reported to be hosting a reception with British and U.S. investors, including executives from companies such as GSK, Microsoft and Rolls-Royce, and to witness the signing of a technology partnership deal.
The Daily Mail said the state visit schedule includes a formal state banquet on Wednesday evening, and that the Princess of Wales, who has been recovering from cancer, will attend. The paper added that on the following morning the Princess will join Melania Trump in Frogmore Gardens, where they will be shown the Scouts’ Squirrels programme.
Royal aides and officials at the U.S. Embassy did not immediately release detailed, on-the-record confirmations of the full itinerary published by the newspaper. Plans for public appearances by members of the royal family are often finalized close to visits, particularly when health issues are involved; the report said nothing was confirmed until this week.
State visits are typically ceremonial and diplomatic events intended to reinforce bilateral relations. The participation of senior royals in such visits is a long-standing British tradition, and the presence of the Princess of Wales alongside senior political leaders would signal a prominent role for the royal household in the visit.
The report noted a menu detail for one of the lunches — Dover sole with peas and potatoes — and other ceremonial elements that commonly accompany state-level hospitality. The White House and Buckingham Palace did not immediately comment on the reported schedule.
This visit, if confirmed as reported, will mark a high-profile engagement for the Princess of Wales as she continues her recovery and resumes public duties. Coverage of the visit and any official confirmations or revisions to the itinerary are expected in the coming days.
