Thai police confirmed Tuesday they are investigating whether an Australian man charged with murder may be connected to two additional cold cases involving women found dead in suitcases. Pattaya City Police Superintendent Colonel Anek Srathongyoo emphasized that there is currently no direct evidence linking Simon Carman to the two unsolved crimes from last year.
Carman is accused of murdering 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla after meeting her in Pattaya's nightlife district. Her body was found concealed in a suitcase near railway tracks.
The two cold cases under renewed scrutiny involve the discoveries of women's bodies in suitcases in the same region last year. In September 2025, the bound body of a woman believed to be in her early 30s was found inside a suitcase floating in a Pattaya reservoir. The luggage, secured with chains and padlocks, was spotted by a member of Thailand's national rowing team. Investigators believe the victim was a foreign national who had undergone significant cosmetic surgery, and her identity and nationality remain unknown. Detectives suspect she died from asphyxiation.
Eight months prior, in February 2025, a local fisherman discovered a suitcase floating near a golf course in Ban Chang, approximately 14 kilometers from Pattaya. Upon opening the locked luggage, officers found a naked woman's body. Both suitcases in these cases had been deliberately weighted with dumbbells in an attempt to prevent them from resurfacing. The identities of these two women also remain unknown, and their murder investigations are ongoing.
Colonel Srathongyoo stated that detectives are formally investigating potential links to the Carman case, but cautioned against premature assumptions. "To what extent it connects is something we have to work on," he said. "We will try to see if there are links, but I haven't assumed the person who did this case must have done the previous ones."
Simon Carman, a 45-year-old truck driver from Perth, is currently being held in a Thai jail as investigations continue.
