An 18-year-old man is in hospital with serious gunshot wounds after being ambushed while driving in Sydney's southwest on Thursday night. Police responded to reports of two gunshots on Mimosa Street in Greenacre shortly before 9 p.m.

The teenager was reportedly shot twice in the chest on nearby Banksia Street before being driven to Mimosa Street, where emergency services discovered him and transported him to a local hospital. He remains in a stable condition.

A police source indicated that the victim is known to associate with members of the Alameddine crime family, but it is unclear if this connection is related to the motive for the shooting or if it stems from an unrelated dispute.

Detectives have seized a Skoda SUV that was used to transport the injured man to Mimosa Street for forensic examination, and its driver has been interviewed. Crime scenes have been established on both Banksia Street and Mimosa Street as the investigation progresses.

Linked Vehicle Fire

Hours after the shooting, emergency services were dispatched to Celia Street in Granville shortly after 3 a.m. on Friday following reports of a car fire. A Toyota Hilux was found engulfed in flames and sustained significant damage before firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Police have now designated a third crime scene at the Granville location and are treating the burnt-out ute as potentially connected to the earlier shooting incident. Authorities are appealing for information, including dashcam or CCTV footage, to assist with their investigation.
