An 18-year-old pedestrian died Saturday night after being struck by a car and propelled into the path of a second vehicle on Hindley Street, a popular nightlife area in Adelaide, Australia.

The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. as the teenager attempted to cross the street. The busy road was subsequently closed by authorities following the accident.

The death has reignited discussions about road safety on Hindley Street, with some residents advocating for the closure of the road to traffic during peak hours, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights.

"People are always crossing, like, constantly across Hindley," said Sebastian Dilettoso, a witness who spoke to Nine News. "You want to hop clubs, hop bars. They should really make it easier to cross."

City of Adelaide councillor Mary Couros indicated that the street is currently undergoing a makeover. "It seems to be a really good, quick fix for now until we do upgrade the street," she stated.

Hindley Street has not seen significant renovations since 1999.

"The first step here is to mourn this young man, this untimely death, get to the bottom of what occurred, and see what we can do to respond," said Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis.
