Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with an alleged assault that resulted in another teenager’s hand being severed in Sydney. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at Redfern Oval, where authorities responded to reports of a concern for welfare.

Upon arrival, officers found a 17-year-old male with a hand that was described as barely attached to his wrist. Police were informed that the assault allegedly took place with a knife in a nearby carpark on Morehead Street. The injured teen was treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to a hospital in a stable condition for surgical reattachment of his hand.

Two crime scenes were established as an investigation commenced. Images from the cordoned-off Redfern Oval showed abandoned clothing, medical supplies, and a blood-covered football kicking tee scattered across the park as police searched for evidence. Detectives were also seen examining a carpark in Redfern and a unit complex on Morehead Street.

Following inquiries, police stopped a vehicle on Redfern Street early Thursday morning and apprehended a 15-year-old male nearby. The teenager has been charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and breaching bail. He was denied bail and is scheduled to appear at a children's court on Thursday.

Authorities are continuing their inquiries. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers.
