Several players from the Sydney Swans, a top Australian Football League (AFL) team, have been referred to police as detectives investigate a reported sexual assault. The incident is alleged to have occurred in East Melbourne on Sunday night following the team's victory.
The Sydney Swans confirmed that an unspecified number of players were involved in an incident in the hours after their match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Club chief executive Matthew Pavlich stated that the club is "still piecing together exactly what's transpired" and expressed shock and disappointment.
Victoria Police have confirmed that detectives are investigating a report of a sexual assault at a hotel on Wellington Parade in the early hours of Sunday morning. A police spokesperson indicated that the exact circumstances are still being established and the investigation is ongoing.
Pavlich declined to comment on the number of players involved or whether any arrests have been made, citing the ongoing police investigation. The AFL has been made aware of the matter and is cooperating with the Victoria Police investigation. Mana
