Australian Federal Police (AFP) have charged a 60-year-old Sydney man with offenses related to the creation and operation of an antisemitic website. The website allegedly featured Nazi symbols and violent extremist videos, according to the AFP.
The investigation began in July after the AFP was alerted to the website's existence. Investigators reportedly found numerous articles with offensive content and traced the website's creation to a man residing in Sydney's south. On Tuesday, officers from the AFP's National Security Investigations team, in conjunction with the NSW Police Force, executed a search warrant at a property in Jannali, a suburb in southern Sydney. Electronic devices were seized from the residence.
AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett previously announced the establishment of the National Security Investigations team in October of the prior year. The team's mandate is to target individuals and groups that significantly harm Australia's social cohesion, with a specific focus on those targeting the Jewish community.
The man has been charged with public display of prohibited hate symbols and publishing violent extremist material. He was also served with a weapons and firearms prohibition order. He was refused bail in the NSW Bail Division Court on Tuesday.
