A supermarket manager in Adelaide, Australia, escaped unharmed after a car crashed through the wall of his store on Sunday afternoon. Marc Schirripa was restocking shelves at the Woodville IGA when a Cupra station wagon reversed into the building around 1:30 p.m.
CCTV footage captured the moment the vehicle breached the brick wall, causing a shelf opposite Mr. Schirripa to topple over. The store owner described hearing a loud bang and feeling a wave hit him from behind. He was shaken but uninjured, and paramedics assessed him at the scene.
"It felt like everything was in slow motion. I couldn't believe it happened," Mr. Schirripa's wife, Anna, told Nine News. She added that it could have been a much different outcome if her husband had been facing the other direction.
The driver, a 31-year-old woman from Woodville, and her passenger, a 29-year-old woman also from Woodville, were not injured in the incident. The driver was subsequently fined for reversing too far.
Mr. Schirripa expressed his relief, telling 7News that he felt "lucky" to have walked away unscathed. He noted the supportive response from the local community following the incident. He had purchased the store just one month prior to the crash.
"We've had our bad luck now, well our good luck's coming," Mr. Schirripa said.
One witness noted that the CCTV footage of the event had circulated widely in the local area, with some initially questioning its authenticity.
The crash caused significant damage to the store, with repair efforts underway.
