A tourist speedboat capsized on Saturday in southern Vietnam, resulting in the deaths of 15 Indian visitors. The vessel was traveling from an island trip when it overturned approximately 400 meters (1,310 feet) from Hon May Rut Ngoai Island, near Phu Quoc.

Authorities stated that the speedboat carried 32 Indian tourists and four crew members. During the incident, 21 individuals were rescued, and all deceased passengers were recovered. Those injured were transported to local hospitals.

Eyewitnesses reported that nearby boats quickly responded to pull passengers from the water before official rescue agencies, including border guards, the navy, and coast guard, arrived. The rescue efforts were hampered by large waves and the fact that many passengers were trapped inside the overturned boat.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi indicated that the tourists were participating in an annual meeting for a private mobile phone company. He confirmed via social media that personnel from the Indian Embassy were present at the scene.

Phu Quoc, situated in the Gulf of Thailand, is a well-known beach destination that attracts millions of domestic and international tourists annually. Hon May Rut Island is located about 10 kilometers (6 miles) south of Phu Quoc and is recognized for its white-sand beaches and clear waters.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway, and officials have not yet released a specific cause. SOURCE1
