Six individuals have been arrested on suspicion of abducting two girls who disappeared from Rugby in Warwickshire. The two girls, aged 11 and 12, were last seen in the Newbold area of Rugby in the early hours of Sunday. They were discovered safe and well in Cornwall on Tuesday by officers from Devon and Cornwall Police.
Warwickshire Police reported that three men and three women were arrested and remain in custody. The arrested individuals include a 62-year-old man and a 25-year-old man, along with a 56-year-old woman, all from Tintagel, Cornwall. Additionally, two women, aged 75 and 47, from Rugby, and a 42-year-old man from Falmouth were taken into custody.
Authorities are investigating how the girls, who had previously lived in Cornwall, managed to travel more than 200 miles. "The people who are currently in custody are all known to the girls so there was and is no wider threat to the community," stated Det Ch Supt Jon Belcher.
Detectives are conducting house-to-house inquiries in Rugby, and an increased police presence will be maintained in the area over the coming days.
