Several people were injured Friday afternoon following a sword attack at a high school in Fagersta, a town in central Sweden. Authorities have arrested one man in connection with the incident at Brinell School.
Police were called to the scene shortly after 2 p.m. local time. Some Swedish media reports indicated the suspect was shot in the leg by police. The number of injured individuals has not been specified by the Fagersta council, but police were conducting a search of the school building. As a precautionary measure, eight other schools in the area were placed under lockdown.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson described the event as a "serious incident" in a post on X, formerly Twitter. He stated that the motive behind the attack was not yet known and that police were working intensively to investigate.
Police have confirmed that there is no ongoing danger to the public.
