Several people have died and others sustained injuries following a tourist coach crash in the south-eastern Swiss Alps. The incident occurred late Thursday afternoon between Susch and Zernez in the Graubünden region, also known as Grisons.

A significant rescue effort, involving numerous helicopters and emergency personnel, was deployed to the scene. Local police confirmed the fatalities and injuries.

The coach was carrying 48 Dutch passengers, according to a spokesperson for the General Dutch Association of Travel Companies, representing the tour operator OAD. The spokesperson told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that the exact number of casualties was not immediately available. Images from Swiss news outlets depicted the overturned coach lying on its side next to a rural road, surrounded by ambulances and rescue workers.

The bus had reportedly departed from the Netherlands on Monday and was on a day trip to Switzerland from Austria at the time of the accident. Zernez serves as a gateway to the Swiss National Park, a large nature reserve in the mountainous Engadine valley.
