A serving Police Scotland officer, Alan Greer, who died by suicide in May, had committed a 14-year spree of sexual assaults and attempted murders, authorities revealed two months after his death. Police Scotland has identified nine victims of the officer, who has been compared to Wayne Couzens, a UK officer previously convicted of murder.

Assistant Chief Constable Lynn Ratcliff stated that Greer had abused his power, targeting individuals he encountered during his duties. The investigation was prompted by one victim who bravely came forward, leading to the identification of eight additional victims. The full extent of his crimes was described as "truly shocking."
