A 37-year-old Scottish man, Daniel Vettrino, was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds on the Caribbean island of Canouan in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on Wednesday night. Local police responded to reports of gunshots around 11:30 p.m. in the Gym Hill area, where they discovered Vettrino. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer.

The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) has launched an investigation into the incident. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death. Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward, and local media reports indicate that two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting.

Vettrino, a technical services manager originally from Dysart, Fife, had reportedly returned from a day out when he was accosted and shot in a parking lot, according to local reports. He had been working for the luxury resort company Canouan Estate Resort and Villas since August 2024. Prior to this, Vettrino worked as an estate and property manager in Colombia from September 2023 to August 2024. Before his move to Colombia, he spent nine years working in Egypt between 2015 and 2024.

His LinkedIn profile described him as a "management level certified professional with a vast amount of experience," managing teams and overseeing resort operations. His death brings the reported homicide total in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to 19 for the year.

Family and friends have paid tribute to Vettrino on social media, remembering him as a "beautiful soul" and a "true gentleman." His brother, Robson Vettrino Kolberg, shared his deep sadness, describing Daniel as a "pure soul" who wished success and happiness for those around him. He added that Daniel touched many lives globally and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Arrangements are being made for his return home and for a public memorial.
