At least 27 people were killed and dozens injured following a Russian attack on the Bucha district, located near the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, officials announced Saturday. The strike, which occurred on August 29, 2026, hit a warehouse containing ammunition, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a statement. The resulting detonation damaged approximately 50 residential buildings, a care home for the elderly and people with disabilities, and sparked a large fire that spread to nearby homes and a restaurant.

"There are regulations in place — ammunition cannot be stored near homes or other residential areas," Zelensky stated, adding that criminal proceedings had been opened on charges of official negligence. He confirmed that a warehouse was struck in the village of Myla, "followed by a detonation."

More than 370 people have been evacuated from the affected area, with the evacuation process ongoing, according to local authorities. The air raids in Kyiv have persisted for three consecutive days, impacting the city's economy and significantly disrupting daily life, more than four and a half years after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
