Russia and North Korea have inaugurated their first road bridge for vehicular traffic, a development that underscores the strengthening relationship between the two nations. The newly opened bridge spans the Tumanaya River, linking Russia's Primorsky Krai region with North Korea.

The bridge is named in honor of Yakov Novichenko, a Soviet officer credited with saving North Korean founding leader Kim Il-sung from drowning in the Tumanaya River. The opening of this direct road link is seen as a tangible enhancement of the growing ties and cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang.
