Russell Brand’s lawyer, Ian Winter, confronted a news correspondent outside Southwark Crown Court in London following the comedian’s convictions for rape and sexual assault. Winter approached Rosamund Urwin, a reporter for The Sunday Times, and said, “I hope you’re pleased with yourself.”
Urwin responded, “I’m pleased justice has been done.”
Winter then retorted, “Well, it wasn’t… You f–ked it,” before adding sarcastically, “Congratulations,” and walking away, according to The Mirror.
Brand, 51, was found guilty by a jury on one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. He was acquitted of two other rape charges and a count of attempted indecent assault. The verdict was delivered on Thursday, and Brand was taken into custody immediately afterward.
Metropolitan Police Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy stated outside the courthouse, “Today’s verdict sends a clear message that no one is above the law, regardless of their fame, wealth, influence or public profile.”
Following the verdict, two additional women have come forward with allegations of rape against Brand. These claims are currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Police. One of these women alleges that Brand raped her in 2012 when she was 16 years old, and he was 30.
The Metropolitan Police initially launched an investigation into Brand in 2023 after receiving multiple allegations. These claims surfaced following reporting by Channel 4’s “Dispatches” and The Sunday Times.
In 2025, Brand was formally charged with rape and sexual assault for incidents that allegedly occurred between 1999 and 2005. He pleaded not guilty to these charges.
Judge Joel Bennathan informed Brand that he faces a “significant” prison term. Sentencing is scheduled for Monday.
