Scotland's prison service and a health board have admitted criminal charges in connection with the death of a prisoner from COVID-19.

Calum Inglis, 34, died at HMP Addiewell in July 2020, just weeks before his planned release. He had been serving a sentence for serious assault. The Scottish Prison Service and NHS Lothian admitted their failings contributed to his death. The charges were accepted at a hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

Inglis had tested positive for coronavirus and was self-isolating in his cell at the time of his death. His family had raised concerns about the care he received.
