Russell Brand was found guilty of rape and three counts of sexual assault in a London criminal trial on November 5, 2026. The jury at Southwark Crown Court acquitted the disgraced comedian of two other rape charges and a count of attempted indecent assault.
One of the rape convictions stems from an incident in 2009 when Brand sexually assaulted a woman at his former home in London. The woman testified that after consensual sex, Brand anally raped her and that she had pleaded with him to stop.
The three sexual assault convictions include an incident at a London bar in 2004 where Brand grabbed a woman’s breasts. Another assault occurred in 2004 or 2005 at Choice FM studios, where Brand allegedly kissed a woman, touched her breasts and buttocks. The final sexual assault charge involved Brand placing his head on a woman’s groin area without consent while working on a Channel 4 project in 2009.
Brand was acquitted of rape charges related to alleged incidents in 1999 and 2001. The 1999 charge involved an alleged assault in a hotel room during a political party conference, and the 2001 charge concerned an alleged attempted indecent assault at MTV’s London office.
Following the verdict, Brand is reportedly facing two additional rape accusations. One accusation comes from a woman who claimed she was 16 years old when she dated Brand, who was 30 at the time. The Metropolitan Police stated that investigations into these allegations are ongoing, and files have been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service.
"Russell Brand was predatory and used his celebrity status to commit sexual crimes," said senior Crown prosecutor David Roberts. "He was a manipulator with an insatiable desire to get what he wanted, regardless of whether consent was given or not."
