A jury in London on Thursday convicted actor and comedian Russell Brand of rape and sexual assault. The allegations against Brand, 51, date back more than 20 years.
Brand was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. He was acquitted of two rape counts and one count of attempted indecent assault. During the trial, a prosecutor described Brand as a "ruthless, calculating, manipulative sexual predator." Brand had denied the charges, testifying that while he was obsessed with sex and had a promiscuous lifestyle in his youth, he never forced anyone against their will.
Judge Joel Bennathan stated that Brand would receive a prison sentence. Brand was taken into custody ahead of his sentencing.
