A pedestrian in Chile's capital, Santiago, was sent flying after a runaway tire detached from a truck and struck him. The bizarre incident was captured on surveillance video.
The 19-year-old student was walking when the tire, which had fallen off a truck driving through an underpass, bounced along the road before hitting him. The tire also collided with at least one other vehicle before striking the student.
Eyewitnesses described hearing a loud noise, "like when one piece of metal hits another." They noted that the student appeared dazed and had difficulty moving his arm, with some blood visible on his head.
"He couldn’t stand up," one witness said.
The victim suffered multiple contusions but is reportedly out of serious condition, according to local mayor Jaime Bellolio. The vehicle involved has been identified.
The incident occurred on October 29. Mega Noticias, a Chilean news outlet, reported on the event.
