The remains of a man who went missing six years ago have been found in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, South Wales Police said.
Police confirmed on Friday that the human remains recovered near Llwyn On Reservoir on 29 August were those of Jordan Moray, a 26-year-old from Cwmbach, near Aberdare in Rhondda Cynon Taf. The force said the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Moray was reported missing from his flat in July 2019. At the time, his games console was reportedly still running and his mobile phone was on charge. His mother made a renewed public appeal to find him on 24 July this year, the sixth anniversary of his disappearance, saying each day had been "agony" and that she was clinging to the hope that one day he would "walk through the door again."
South Wales Police said officers attended the scene at Llwyn On Reservoir after a report of human remains on 29 August. Subsequent inquiries confirmed the identity of the remains. Detectives have said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and no further action is required in relation to the cause of death, the force added.
Possible sightings of Moray were reported in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, in 2021 and were reported to police at the time. Those reports were investigated as part of earlier inquiries into his disappearance, the force said.
Local voluntary search teams and police conducted searches during the period following Moray's disappearance. His family and friends maintained appeals for information over the years, and social media campaigns and posters were circulated in an attempt to locate him.
The Llanwyn On Reservoir area lies within the Brecon Beacons National Park, which is also known by its Welsh name, Bannau Brycheiniog. The park covers large tracts of upland in South Wales and is visited by walkers and outdoor enthusiasts throughout the year.
South Wales Police said they would continue to support Mr Moray's family and asked that their privacy be respected as they come to terms with the confirmation. Anyone with information about Moray's disappearance or events leading up to his death is asked to contact South Wales Police quoting the reference supplied by officers.
