Venezuela has been severely impacted by a sequence of powerful earthquakes, with acting President Delcy Rodríguez reporting significant damage across several states, including the capital, Caracas. Buildings have collapsed in the capital, and early Thursday morning, Rodríguez stated that at least 32 people had died and over 700 were injured.

The casualty figures did not yet include the state of La Guaira, located near the coast. Rodríguez described La Guaira as one of the most devastated regions and a "real tragedy."

High casualties are anticipated following the 'earthquake doublet,' a phenomenon involving two large earthquakes occurring in quick succession, with magnitudes recorded above 7. The seismic activity has caused widespread destruction, prompting urgent rescue and assessment efforts in the affected areas.
