Merseyside Police are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a woman, believed to be in her 70s, whose body was discovered in a bin bag in Liverpool's Stanley Park. The remains were found shortly before 5:30 p.m. BST on Friday.
The victim is described as white, approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall, with a small build and strawberry blonde hair. At the time of discovery, she was wearing a cerise pink Nike t-shirt.
Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson stated that the incident is considered a "shocking crime." Police believe the body may have remained in the park, within a walled garden, for several weeks. A post-mortem examination has been conducted, but the results have been withheld for investigative purposes.
"I want to take the opportunity to ask people to please consider whether you have any neighbours, family members or friends who live in the area, someone you may not have seen or heard from for a few weeks," Wilson urged. "Missing people reports in Merseyside and elsewhere have been checked but, so far, these have not resulted in an identification."
Authorities acknowledge that individuals can go missing without immediate notice from loved ones due to planned holidays or simple misunderstandings, which may mean no official missing person report has been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
