Police launched a probe on Monday morning after the body of an unknown woman was discovered in a pond at Lowther Gardens in Lytham, Lancashire. Officers were alerted to the scene around 9 a.m. following reports of a body in the water.

Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and firefighters, attended the location. Authorities have since stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

"Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this difficult time," a police spokesperson said. The identity of the woman has not yet been established.

Lowther Gardens, a popular public space featuring a playground, padel courts, and a bowling green, was cordoned off by police vehicles as investigations commenced. Entrances to the park were blocked, and the gardens were temporarily closed to the public.

Staff members at the nearby Lowther Pavilion theatre were asked to remain inside the building during the initial stages of the investigation. The theatre later reopened to accommodate scheduled events, including an afternoon classical music recital and an evening concert.

A walking group that had planned to enter the park shortly after the discovery was reportedly shocked by the incident.

Lancashire Police confirmed the discovery of the woman's body in the pond at Lowther Gardens, Lytham, and that a file will be passed to the coroner.
