Police declared an emergency under the Public Safety Preservation Act on Sunday after occupants of a stolen vehicle crashed outside a property in Glenview on the Sunshine Coast and fled on foot, with one person believed to be armed.

Officers made the declaration at 12:55 p.m. as emergency services responded to an ongoing incident outside an address on Old Caloundra Road. Police said the vehicle had been reported stolen and crashed outside the property before the occupants ran from the scene. Specialist police remain at the location as searches continue and authorities warned the assailants may be hiding in the local area.

The boundaries of the declared Public Safety Preservation Act zone encompass the Bruce Highway interchange with Caloundra Road to the east, and Racecourse Road south to the intersection with Fred Chaplin Circuit. Within the PSPA area, police can impose movement and access restrictions to protect public safety while they carry out their response.

Residents in the affected area were urged to remain indoors and the public was advised to avoid the zone while officers conduct searches. Specialist units remain in attendance and police said they were actively pursuing leads to locate those who fled the vehicle.

Police did not immediately release details on the number of people who ran from the vehicle or their identities. There were no immediate reports of casualties related to the crash or the subsequent search. Authorities asked anyone with information about the incident to contact police as the operation continued.

The declaration and lockdown followed a rapid response by emergency services after the crash was reported. Officials have maintained a visible presence on Old Caloundra Road and surrounding streets while investigators and specialist teams work to secure the area and ensure public safety.

Further updates were expected as police conclude their searches and assess the incident. Until then, residents inside the PSPA boundaries were advised to stay indoors and the wider public to avoid the Glenview area to allow emergency crews to operate without interference.
