A Perth grandfather, identified as Paul Dougan, has died following a severe assault at the One Tribe Bar in Kuta, Bali. Dougan, known affectionately as 'Rabbit,' had been holidaying with friends when he was reportedly confronted and attacked by a group of individuals, believed to be Australians, on August 21. He sustained multiple injuries, including internal bleeding, 10 broken ribs, and the removal of his spleen, requiring three surgeries and four blood transfusions during a 10-day stay in intensive care.

Dougan's family traveled from Perth to be by his side and set up a fundraiser to cover mounting medical bills, which had surpassed $70,000. His son, Liam, shared the news of his father's passing, expressing his grief and gratitude for the support received.

'I am shattered, lost, heartbroken and confused but grateful I ever got to call you my Dad,' Liam wrote in a tribute to his father. He added that while justice would be sought, 'none of this will bring Dad back.'

According to a friend, Dougan was not seeking trouble and attempted to de-escalate the situation by suggesting he and his partner leave. However, he was allegedly confronted and struck before he could depart.

Indonesian police have visited the bar where the incident occurred. CCTV footage of the alleged assault is reportedly available, but no arrests or charges have been made. The identities of Dougan's alleged attackers are yet to be confirmed.

Back in Perth, Dougan is being remembered as a beloved father, grandfather, and a respected member of the Gosnells community. The Gosnells Football Club issued a statement expressing their condolences to his family and loved ones. Dougan was expected to require a further two weeks of recovery before being cleared to fly home, but he succumbed to his injuries before this could happen.
