A passenger bus collided with a truck in Pakpattan district in Punjab province, eastern Pakistan, on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of at least 11 people and injuring 33 others, according to police and rescue officials.
Rescuers utilized cranes and heavy machinery for a three-hour operation to free trapped passengers from the wreckage. Local hospitals declared an emergency, calling in additional medical staff to manage the influx of injured individuals.
President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his sorrow over the fatalities, offering condolences to the victims' families and wishing the injured a swift recovery.
Road accidents are frequent in Pakistan, often attributed to poor road conditions, insufficient enforcement of traffic laws, and unsafe driving practices. In a similar incident last month, a bus crash in southwestern Balochistan province claimed at least 12 lives and left about two dozen injured.
