The official cause of death for Erin Benavides, who was previously accused of an emotional affair with Eva Longoria’s ex-husband Tony Parker, has been determined as a self-inflicted gunshot wound, with the manner of death ruled a suicide. The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the findings to Page Six.

Benavides, 54, was found dead in her Port Aransas, Texas, home on October 14. Police were alerted after a friend of Benavides’ husband received a concerning text message from her. Responding officers forced entry into the residence and discovered Benavides with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators documented three firearms and multiple bullets at the scene. The Port Aransas Police Department stated that no foul play was suspected, though the investigation was ongoing. A full autopsy report is expected within approximately a week.

Benavides gained public attention in 2010 when she was accused of an emotional affair with Parker while he was married to actress Eva Longoria. At the time, Benavides was married to Parker’s former San Antonio Spurs teammate Brent Barry. She denied the affair with the NBA star. Longoria filed for divorce from Parker in November 2010, and Benavides and Barry also divorced.

Following these events, Benavides pursued a career in law, serving as a prosecutor in Texas and working with organizations focused on aiding vulnerable children. She resigned from her position with the 38th Judicial District in August, two months prior to her death.
