King Harald V of Norway died early Friday, prompting Oslo Mayor Anne Lindboe to postpone her wedding ceremony. Lindboe, who had planned to marry her fiance, Pål Sandvid, on Friday, confirmed the postponement through her political adviser.
The monarch, who reigned for 35 years, died at the national hospital where he was being treated for a rare blood condition. His son, Haakon VIII, ascended to the throne following his father's death.
Lindboe paid tribute to the late king on Instagram, writing, "It's hard to imagine an Oslo and a Norway without you. You didn't need a crowd to be King." She added that "Even the majority of Norwegians who never met you in person still felt like they knew you."
Lindboe announced her engagement to Sandvid in June. No new date for the wedding has been set, according to her adviser. King Harald V was 87 years old at the time of his death.
