King Harald V of Norway died peacefully on Friday at the age of 89, the Royal House of Norway announced. The monarch passed away at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet.
His son, Crown Prince Haakon, 53, is set to succeed him on the throne.
"It is with deep grief that we announce that His Majesty King Harald has passed away," the royal palace stated. King Harald died at 6:35 AM local time.
