Dunedin City Councilor Jo Galer joined a livestreamed council meeting from her bathroom on Monday, with laundry including underwear visible in the background. The incident occurred during a discussion on council spending.
Mayor Sophie Barker alerted Galer to the visible laundry. "You might want to move your camera," Barker said. Galer responded, "Why? Where is it?" and was informed by the mayor that her undergarments and other clothes were drying in full view.
"That’s great. You can see my washing, you can see me. That is no problem," Galer stated, continuing her speech about "frivolous" council spending with the laundry still visible behind her. A shadowy figure was also seen moving behind a frosted glass door in the room.
