Jose Mourinho has responded to criticism following Real Madrid's tense 2-1 Champions League victory against Inter Milan at the Bernabeu. The win, their first match in the opening league phase, saw Real Madrid establish a two-goal lead early on through Kylian Mbappe and Federico Valverde, capitalizing on an early goalkeeping error. However, the team's performance faltered, allowing Inter Milan to narrow the deficit in the 77th minute and create a nervy conclusion for the home crowd, leading to audible displeasure from some fans.

Club legend Raul had commented that Real Madrid's goals were a result of Inter's mistakes and that the late goal by the Italian side introduced uncertainty. Responding to these remarks, Mourinho described the match as "crazy" and suggested it could have been a high-scoring affair. "It wasn't boring; we had chances to make it 3-0 in the last minute of the first half, but I agree with Raul that the goals came from their mistakes," Mourinho stated. He added, "It's not just criticism, we did some good things."

Mourinho also addressed the tactical decision to play right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield due to suspensions for Eduardo Camavinga, Arda Guler, and Bernardo Silva. Alexander-Arnold, who was later substituted, had a mixed performance, contributing to chances but also struggling defensively. Mourinho acknowledged the player's effort in an unfamiliar role, stating, "It's very clear that his qualities are made for the full-back position, not for midfield. He is not a midfielder."

Jude Bellingham drew attention for a significant missed opportunity in the 58th minute to extend Real Madrid's lead to 3-0. Faced with an open goal, Bellingham's attempt was blocked by Inter's goalkeeper. Following the match, Bellingham posted on social media, expressing regret for the miss and acknowledging the win. "Don't know wtf I was thinking... But more importantly, a good win at home against a very strong side to kick off the new Champions League season," he wrote.

Real Madrid's next fixture is a league match against Rayo Vallecano at home on Saturday, where they aim to regain ground in the LaLiga standings. The Champions League campaign will resume after the international break, with Real Madrid scheduled to play Roma on October 14.
