Mother, 24, Arrested After Baby's Body Found in Sydney Bin
Police have identified and arrested a 24-year-old woman believed to be the mother of a newborn whose body was discovered in a rubbish bin at an apartment block in Auburn, Sydney.
A 24-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a newborn baby whose body was found in a bin at an apartment block in Auburn, Sydney, on August 31. Police identified the woman as the infant's mother after a search lasting more than three weeks.
The baby boy was discovered unclothed inside a rubbish bag by a local resident. NSW police had issued a public appeal for information, emphasizing that their primary concern was ensuring the mother received medical care.
The 24-year-old woman was taken to hospital for assessment and was arrested upon her release on Thursday evening. She was then taken to Auburn Police Station, where she remains in custody. Police stated that she is expected to be charged.
Auburn Police Area Acting Commander Darren Sly previously indicated that the baby may have been in the bin for up to 36 hours. He described the circumstances as "sad and horrific."
