A marmoset monkey was discovered abandoned in a laundry bag on a public bus in northwest London, prompting concern from animal welfare organizations about potential pet dumping following recent legislative changes.

The primate, named Oyster, was found on the 302 bus service. RSPCA London chief inspector Clare Dew stated that while no one on the bus reported seeing anything unusual, authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and transit logs to identify the individual who left the animal. Dew expressed that this incident is likely a direct consequence of new legislation and fears it may not be the last such case involving primates.

Following a veterinary examination, Oyster was declared to be in good health. The monkey has since been transferred to a sanctuary where efforts will be made to introduce her to a male companion. The RSPCA is advising individuals who are struggling to care for pets or cannot obtain the necessary licenses not to abandon their animals. Instead, the organization urges them to seek guidance from veterinarians or animal welfare charities.
